[Degreeworks-l] FW: DGW Questions

The other day Sherry asked about how DegreeWorks will work w/Banner 8
and Cathy mentioned the UTF8 character set might impact it. For now it
looks like that shouldn't be a problem, since DegreeWorks won't be fully
"internationalized"-at least not yet. But it may be something we have
to look at more carefully in a future upgrade.
Anyway, I thought I'd share this with our local listserv for FYI
purposes even though many of us don't deal w/the hardware or technical
issues.
I've placed a copy of the document Dennis sent in a new folder on the W:
drive created to collect the various docs the SGHE reps have sent us (at
least those that didn't deal directly w/testing & training):
W:\Workgroups\DegreeWorks\Other Documents (from various SGHE reps)
I moved a couple of files that Laurie sent us early on and the clone
from report from Catherine Gibson to this folder.
Thanks, Jane

Subject: DGW Questions
Good morning Dale and Jane. I finally got some answers back from some of
the questions you had raised concerning DGW performance and moving into
Banner 8.0. I am going to cut and paste your questions and the
development team's answers below.
Have a great day,
Dennis
1. Is there any load statistics available for them to benchmark
against? Their enrollment is about 5000 students.
It depends on their hardware. We did some benchmarking at an HP lab the
summer before last using their Integrety servers and I am attaching the
results of those. This may not be exactly what they want but should
give some idea of how one system performs with a certain number of
users.
2. They are working on going to Banner 8. 0. Are there any
problems with DegreeWorks moving to Banner 8? Do they have to do
anything special in terms of the UTF8 character set?
DegreeWorks is compatible with Banner 8 but does nothing with the UTF8
character set. In other words we are not fully internationalized. That
is on the Product Road Map for a release sometime next year but may be
moved up. Regardless, we did expand our fields to meet the corresponding
Banner database fields and DegreeWorks will work alongside of Banner 8
just fine.
