[Degreeworks-l] DegreeWorks Upgrade 4.0.2

SunGard has just released the latest patch for DegreeWorks: 4.0.2. It
was released on 3/31/09. See the attached e-mail for more information.

I have downloaded the PDFs of all the technical, user, installation, and
release guides and have placed them on the shared network at the
following path:

W:\Workgroups\DegreeWorks\Updated Tech & User Guides (DW4.0.2)

Alvin will need to download the actual software/patch.

(Alvin, the only thing I and a few others will need access to is the
patch upgrade for the PC tools. If there is a separate file for this,
is it possible to place it in the following folder:
W:\Workgroups\DegreeWorks\PC Tools Software Upgrades? It will be needed
by several people in the Student Records office in addition to Cathy
Scott. I'm not sure if anyone else uses the PC Tools for DegreeWorks.)

As some of you may recall from the technical conference call, it will be
especially important that we backup our Web-related DegreeWorks files
before the upgrade installation is done, so that we can compare the
files that contain our Web localizations (as completed by Kaajal Desai)
against the new files, and copy/paste our customizations into the new
files. The SunGard reps suggested backing these files up on someone's
personal computer, but if there's space, perhaps the files can be placed
on the shared network drive? Just in case that's an option-provided
there's space-I've created a folder for that labeled as follows:
W:\Workgroups\DegreeWorks\Possible Web Backup. Otherwise, the folder
can be deleted.

To assist Ken in the process of maintaining the Web localizations, I am
willing to review the Web-related xsl files to help identify the
sections that contain our customizations. If my help is wanted on this,
I just need to be able to see the files. (That's why I suggested a
backup on the W: drive.) But if preferred, Ken or someone can e-mail
the selected files to me (since only a handful should be affected). I'm
still preparing the first draft of the new catalog, but once I've sent
that draft to the Prov/Assoc Provost/Asst Provost for review (sometime
next week), I will have time available to concentrate on DegreeWorks.
Just let me know.

This will also be the first upgrade to DegreeWorks since we've cloned
TEST to PROD.

This upgrade doesn't have to happen right away, but if Greg has
tentatively set up some dates for training/testing, we need to know the
dates. DegreeWorks will probably be unavailable for a day or two while
the installation and review process takes place.

As I looked over the documentation for 4.0.2, I see that Workflow is now
an option for using the Exceptions/Petitions feature. We don't plan on
using that yet, so installation of the components for the 3rd party
software related to that feature may be optional at this point.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks, Jane
