[Degreeworks-l] FW: Default in the Welcome page

FYI: Until Wayne at Whittier College brought this up, it didn't dawn on me that the Welcome Screen isn't visible to students or advisors when they login to DegreeWorks.  It's only visible to we REG users (Student Records, primarily).



Maybe when we get access to DegreeWorks set up through the Portal/Banner Self Service, we can at least take the text that appears on the Welcome Screen and place it on the first page users see when they click on a DegreeWorks tab and before they click on something that gets them into DegreeWorks proper.  I don't know how this would work, so I'm not sure if it's possible.



But I thought I'd mention it in case we can experiment with it in the Portal.  We don't need the photo on the right...but the text will be helpful.  Otherwise, we'll put it on our DegreeWorks Web site (whenever we get something basic set up).

For students, DegreeWorks:

When students or Advisors log into DegreeWorks, the audit immediately shows for the student, and the audit for the first student in the advisee list shows for the advisor.  We would like to put some directions and informational items on the Welcome Screen and would like that screen to default in and not the first audit.  Below is the response we received from Sungard. They are saying that your functionality can't be accomplished:



I talked to a programmer about this and learned how this was designed to work.  It's based on the User Class, and more specifically the keys assigned by User Class.

*         If you are a Student, typically a STU User Class, you will get the SDSTUME key assigned.  This tells the program to skip past the welcome screen and automatically pull up the audit for the student.

*         If you are an advisor, tpyically ADV or ADVX, you will get the SDSTUMY key which tells the program to pul in all of your advisees, and pull up the first student on the list.

*         If you are a REG user, however, you will not have either of these keys so it will take you to the Welcome screen and leave the ID field blank.

In order to get this to work they way you want it to you will have customize the software.  This is what the programmer I spoke to has told me.  I see the print screen from Georgia -- you may want to inquire what custom changes were made to get it to work this way (unless they are actually signing on as a REG user and have filled out the ID manually).  If you are interested in the same custom changes maybe they can share them with you, or maybe they have figured out some undocumented way to get this to work the way it is.  I have played around with it here and can't come up with any.  Let me know if you find anything.



I don't understand the point of the Welcome screen showing only for the REG userlcass? They are the last people who would need directions on how to use DW or would need to see the default  note on what DW can do for advisors or students.



Does anyone know if settings exist to get the welcome screen to default in and not the first audit? Any assistance you can provide will be great!
