[Trombone-l] Contra question

Before I put the second valve on my bass, I used a little trick that I
learned from a tenor player friend who was a guy with fairly short arms.
My right arm is long enough to reach extended 7th position for the low
c. But it made me feel a little uneasy and tentative holding the slide
with just the tip of my middle finger. It was just a matter tying a
little loop of string or shoelace around the hand slide brace which was
then coiled around the middle finger. So it was possible to vigorously
fling the slide all the way out to 7+ without worrying about letting go
of it.

I like it - just make sure it's tied on well...probably a little
technique
involved. That's recession thinking though!
