Not even sure who recommended what at this point, but what I don't  
remember seeing is that if you want a bright (edgy) sound a shallow  
mouthpiece should do the trick. A Bach 7C instead of a 7 will give  
you a brighter sound, more edge, and make the high range a little  
easier overall.  I'm not sure that I would even say that a "blary"  
sound would be something that I would find desirable in a trombone  
tone, it sounds more like you're out of control at that point.  But a  
nice edge is good on jazz, rock, latin, etc.
