[Trombone-l] shipping cost issues

Chris, you nailed it on the head. It's hard to estimate shipping in advance with the merchandise we sell. Not only weight (which is easy to computerize), but dimension and fragility comes into play. That's why we have been offering a flat rate service for years. We're trying to make it easier on you to know your shipping cost up front. It's not all that easier for us, because we have to weigh and box eveything eventually, so obtaining shipping after you've given us your list is easy. Imagine if you ordered two slide bumpers, an Arbans book, a copper bottom mute (fragile)  and a cleaning rod. Easy to add up the weights. Not so easy to figure for the narrow (and easily bendable) rod, the extra padding needed for the mute, the heavy book (and its location in the carton), and the tiny bumpers.  There's a lot more to it than I can readily write about here.  I would bore you to an early death.  I hope you get the proverbial picture!

Not showing the shipping seems to be not too uncommon in the U.S. 
Hickey's (who I know is reputable) doesn't show shipping costs either. 
 
 
Oh, but Hickeys will GLADLY tell you the shipping costs over the phone, if you ask. Ask for Chuck, personally. He has always given me the total cost up front!
