Could be wrong here, but I really don't think it's a ream-ed out mouthpiece that'll make an 'edgy' sound.
Nearly all sounds are available at some level from nearly all mounthpieces.
I play a Schilke 59, granted it's turned down to fit a Bach receiver, but certainly not reamed out. IMHO reaming out a mouthpiece simply does away with the ventruii that causes ANY sound. An 'edgy sound' doesn't come from "BLOWING HARD" or filing away metal...
If you want to shut down the tone, how 'bout simply shutting down the mouth, or perhaps closing down the throat..
I've found the better way is to simply "over-purse" your lips, you'll get an edge sound, but not an overblown, out of control sound.
Good luck! It can be as much fun as learning how to controll wind during an "up-gliss" vs a "down-gliss"..
Gotta love the dollar notes!!

Hi Listers, Can't stay out any longer....gotta contribute now!!!maybe .02 even up to .06 cents. I am well seasoned (80 yrs old now) in the business of lead playing...always with "that" edge. Or so I'm told by my section mates. Firstly, seasoning come from the marine corps field band, San Francisco, (52') then many circus bands and shows all the while being lead trombone on some big bands along the way. I have found this kind of sound lends itself to lead but at the same time its easily tapered down to a very full round sound when called for. Just keep the chops seasoned and ready!
A very long time ago I started playing a King 3B and as usual toyed with this MP and that one until finally settling on a Bach 7C. I wanted a little more punch and sizzle though so I opened up the throat to almost 1/4" and there you have it. This rig seems to be able to take all the air anyone can muster and you will find you can really bear down and play a loud as your lips can stand! Works well for me....your mileage may vary though. Now, go head, have fun!
