The reason most sheet music stores do not show shipping costs is that it is
next to impossible to determine without knowing your complete order and how
you want it shipped. I work for a sheet music retailer in Independence,
Missouri, and we try very hard to keep the shipping costs as low as
possible, but until we know exactly what's being ordered and how much it
weighs, we can't give a quote.
We try to use the cheapest method possible to save the customer money, but
we also have to balance that with speed of delivery and dependability.
While the U.S. Postal Service may often be the cheapest route, even with
their so-called "Delivery Confirmation," it's next to impossible to track
where an order is. If it doesn't show up, the standard response from the
USPS is that we need to give it up to three weeks if shipped by Media Mail,
or at least two weeks if shipped Priority Mail.
I've personally ordered from Tap Music and received excellent service. I
do, however, agree with the statement that, if you can't find contact info
such as a working phone number or physical address (and I always will do a
Google Map search just to make sure it's not a fake), it definitely creates
a suspicion as to the veracity of the online business.
