The recording will also come in handy for your son, because he will  
know what the accompaniment sounds like. Less chance of messing up is  
always a good thing. It will also save time when he's together with  
the accompanist, because your son won't have to figure out what's  
going on in the piano part when he doesn't play. If you do get a  
recording, your son should listen to it enough so that he knows what's  
going on in the piano part almost as well as he knows the trombone part.


BTW, the Mc Kay Estate maintains a website with a contact email.  
Perhaps they may have access to a recording of the Sonata, or be able  
to point you towards one.

ASCAP doesn't list any recordings of the Sonata, so I think that rules  
out finding a commercial release.
