Doug Yeo (BSO) started left handed, until his private teacher "corrected" him.
When I have problem children who "insist" they have to use the bell to find third or any other position, I show them (obviously on a straight Bb Tenor), that I can play with either hand, equally, I might add, and have. If we are truly listening for intonation when we play, and both of your arms are healthy, & fully functioning, you should be able to play a straight slided or valved trombone with either hand.
