[Trombone-l] Trombone for new elementary school player

My son started band this year in the 5th grade. He started out on
trumpet, but switched to trombone after a couple of months.

One of my friends had a King Liberty model from the late 1930's that I
bought from him. I compared the local music stores new and rental
stock to this King Liberty, and the King was a far superior horn.
Getting a good tone is easier on these old horns (important for concert
of sound IMO), and they are tough enough to withstand the occasional
clash with a chair leg or music stand. I bought the King for $300 in
great shape.

Look around (classifieds in your newspaper, Craigslist, etc.) and
you'll find something.
