He's tall for his grade/age, so he might have the arms for it.
When playing my Conn, I use the F side pretty infrequently (depending on
passages), I generally play 2nd part in a Trombone choir. I've worked a bit
over the past year on using alternate positions, so I find myself using a
lot more of the slide that I used to. It's definitely more economic in
slide movements but one has to get used to the different sound...length of
the tubing causing different overtones.
I just didn't want to jump into a valved horn until I saw real interest!
