I used the Jimmy Cleveland post to forward this over-I know it is off
topic, but I'm listening to these phones, as I'm setting up my home studio
(I've moved...yeesh..lots of work) and the phones are the only ones I've
liked as much as the AKG K240 series, of which I've had several.
Guitar Center Sherman Oaks pointed me to these: Beyerdynamic model DT770
Pro. Got for around $150. That is a sale price...and I'd imagine it
might still be going on. I've been listening to Fritz Reiner CSO do the
"Also Sprach..." and also checked these with ASIO Signal Gen, a neat
little app which acts as a sine wave generator and sweep generator with
all frequencies available. The phones reproduces 16hz quite well.
So the phones go down to subsonic levels and are completely sealed to the
outside (my son is unable to answer the door no matter how hard I pound,
if he is wearing these). They are extremely neutral with very little
obvious freq range emphases.
Should be good for home studio work since there appear to be very little
outside leakage of sounds. The only caveat is comfort with the bell
section resting next to the left one of the fairly medium large transducer
housing over each ear. Generally, though I'd say this is as good or
better than any set of cans I've ever used, and I've been doing audio and
music for just a bit less than fourty years...BUT! ...before that, as a
child, I was an audio and electronics buff...only music could take me away
from my soldering station for long...
Hope listers are well...keep buzzing.
