[Trombone-l] Conductor demands

Folks,
I look at conductor demands and preferences as a challenge to be met.
Sometimes strictures on performance have the effect of forcing one to be
more creative. Ansel Adams liked the B&W format and Picasso's blue
period were both structured ways of limiting options and substituting
creativity for glitz. More is sometimes better, sometimes not. If I'm
restricted to a particular type of trombone then I have to find ways of
making it "work." When a conductor picks a tempo that is inappropriate I
will find a way to still have the music dance and sing. It may be
harder, but I refuse to give up and damage the music for the audience
and the ensemble. I just have to dig deeper, be more demanding of myself
and more creative.
