Not that this excuses her being rude, but he did have too many bags.  The
rule was changed in Lubbock, not DFW.  You get a carry on and a personal
item.  A briefcase, garment bag, and trombone is two carry ons and a
personal item, or maybe two personal items and a carry on.  They let him get
by with it in Lubbock.  Again, this doesn't excuse rude service, and I would
still write a letter, but he did have too many bags.

The airlines bring this on themselves to some extent by charging to check
bags.  I think you should get $10 back if you check your bag.  The flights
would board and unload faster, and there would always be room for trombones.
