Butch will sorely be missed in the Atlanta area.
I met him many years ago when he needed a sub for bass bone in the Sentimental Swing Orchestra.
We talked for the longest by phone before I ever showed up for a rehearsal. He told me he always asked potential bass bone players if they had ever heard of George Roberts, (I know...there are some out there who haven't) and he said he wouldn't hire one if they hadn't. I really wished I could have continued to play with the band, but Atlanta is a little too far from home for a regular commitment.
Good man and a good player who will be missed.
Ralph
