Things are better here than they have been, but that's not saying much. I'm
pretty much an amatuer, but there's not nearly enough work here for a pro.
There's a few sax players, a couple of guitar players, and at least one
piano player that I know of that are full time musicians. I play in a 9
piece 70's rock/blues band that's been picking up more and more gigs. Played
some weddings, a couple of benefits for reduced rate,they led to some bigger
shows at a festival last fall ($2500) and new years eve at a local club.
contract said 2500 + 10 bucks a ticket over 250 tickets, club holds 450 but
couldn't fill it that night. Have before at a benefit for the local MRI
campaign, but new years eve had a lot of competition. About 6 of us in that
band are also in a 17 piece, but it hasn't done much that pays real coin in
quite a while. There's lots of rock and country trios playing at the bars,
but I don't think he money is very good.......
