I suppose I shouldn't even be chiming in on this, since my work schedule and
the whole business has changed completely for me in he last two years. Here
goes, anyway...
>From driving 3000 miles/month to earn about US$25k/year in northern and
central Illinois, I am now earning about US$23,000/year teaching at Mahidol
University College of Music and playing in the Thailand Philharmonic.
Overall it is much better, despite the lower dollar amount, since I moved
from a house costing me conservatively $1,800/month to a rented row house
costing me about $270/month and generally the cost of living is a [small]
fraction of my COL in the Chicago area. All I had to do was leave all my
friends and family and move roughly 10,000 miles to Bangkok! Desperation and
a desire for something fixed and workable can make you consider many options
most players wouldn't think of! ;-)
My ThB 0.70 [US$0.02!]
Of course, there are compensations: Thai women are bella, bella!
