Thanks Howard. Fascinating photo. Considering how bad the market is for trombone players, maybe a switch to the War Tuba would be in order.
By the way, maybe we could have a fast poll of the membership. Let us know if your local work situation (meaning musical type work) is:
1. Much better
2. Better
3. The same
4. Worse
5. Much worse
than it was, oh let's say 2 years ago. Two years would be before the recession started. Please include your city or general area.
I am not trying to be nosy. I would just like to get a feel how things are in various areas of the country.
I will start off:
Chicago, Illinois: Things here are very bad at this time. I would have to say #5-Much Worse than 2 years ago. I am seeing e-mails from electric bass players moaning about how little work they have. This time of year is historically not very busy, but things have really gone downhill. A great time to fall into a really long term theater pit band gig, if they still exist!
Great Falls, MT: Worse to about the same, unless you play Country or Rock, then it is better. Small Jazz Combo or Big band work is much worse.
One of our problems that has always been prevalent here, is the fact that some young CW and Rock bands are willing to play for Tips.
Thanks for your participation in advance.
