[Trombone-l] 1938 Conn 70H slide too long...

Actually, if you get out a tape measure and approximate it, what Conn 
did was to shorten the bell loop and put an extra inch or so (it's been 
a while since I've done the measurement) into the slide.  This has some 
acoustic effects on the instrument, notably the length of tubing 
available for the bell flare.  Conn turned that bug into a feature by 
going to slide tuning and lengthening the bell flare, to something 
closer to ideal for an F trombone.  With slide tuning, you don't need 
the short cylindrical sections for the tuning slide.
