I didn't realise that the slides used to be longer. That goes a long way to explaining how George Roberts always managed big band jazz on a single valver . . .
Both my Rath R9DST and my Kanstul 1662i have a decent C on the end of the slide but admittedly it is halfway down the stocking. I couldn't imagine playing some of the charts I get (Watermelon Man for example) without that D valve.
