[Trombone-l] mutes

Allow me to "ditto" that.
I've used mine for a LONG time, allows me to practice "D" in the staff that sounds so stuffy WITH the mute, but after working with the mute, it practically sings.
BTW.. The wife can't hear me tooting and practicing downstairs if I have the SofTone fully on.
I did take it by one of the local golf shops and had a "J" embroydered into the front of the mute. Dunno why, who looks at the bass trombone?

The Softtone mute (available at hornguys.com) is a quite versatile purchase. I leave it in my gig bag all the time, use it fully stretched over the bell for a practice mute or drape it partially over the bell for a bucket or hat sound. I even fold it up in my hand and use it for
a plunger when I don't have one. According to hornguys.com, many tenor
players prefer the bass trb size. The pics of it at the site are
misleading - it will fold up flat and take up no room at all after you use it once or twice.
