[Trombone-l] Collapsible Music Stand

Most of the "portable" stands I've seen are so big & bulky and come
apart into pieces, you might as well stick to the Manhasset you
creatively acquired from your local college or high school music
dept. (Oh wait! I'm telling too much about myself.)

If you want sturdy and compact...

I picked up one of these Wittner stands (German) way too long ago. It
folds up small enough to fit in my saddle bag–about the size of a
small travel umbrella. So it goes with me on every gig. AND it passes
the Real Book test.

It has extenders that easily accommodate up to 3 9x12" pages. It's
goes from 15" to 50" high... So if your either playing a circus gig
(in the clown car) or standing it'll adjust to fit.

And at $20... you've spent more on lunch (or beer)!

It's also got a built-in DUI checker. Because it has to folded up a
certain way--which makes it so compact--if you don't do it right, you
obviously had too much to drink on the gig and must wait till you're
sober enough to fold it correctly.

This feature can also double as a trumpet intelligence tester... Hand
it to a trumpet player and watch the blankness wash over their face
as their internal systems shut down from not knowing how to handle
it. Ahhhh, good times.

Jay,

Manhassett makes a version that folds up.
