[Trombone-l] 51 positions of the trombone?

The 51 positions were first described in an article in "The
Instrumentalist" some time in the late 1940s (I think).  I read it in the
Brass Anthology collection.

The concept is that there are so many variants of the "standard" positions
that we have effectively 51 different slide positions (most of them
clustered around the usual 7).
