[Trombone-l] do you object to teaching euph/baritone?

If the reason to take the lessons in college/university is to be able to apply that in a profession at a later time, then as a physics major, I should not have been allowed to take bone lessons, play in the concert band, trombone choir, jazz band, chapel brass, brass choir, etc. Nor should I have been required to take history, religion (private, liberal arts school), social studies, phy-ed, etc., etc. That philosophy makes no sense. And while I would have loved to make my living playing bone, I knew I wasn't good enough but I did want to keep playing. I got lucky many years later and play in a very good amateur big band as well as a corporate orchestra. Does it pay the bills? Not on your life - costs me more in expenses than I make but I do it because I want to, I enjoy it and I received additional and excellent instruction for four additional years beyond high school that helped me improve my capabilities.

My 1 cent (can't afford 2)
