[Trombone-l] do you object to teaching euph/baritone?

Me...I'm teaching music, but someone has to teach the euph - I would
prefer an expert who believed I was making a great choice; not a
half-hearted willingness to teach. I think my colleagues POV is frankly
very cynical.

My first thought, albeit a bit snarky, is "are you teaching euphonium or
teaching music?"

I'm currently working on my doctorate at UMKC, and we have several DMA
students in euphonium, quite a few MA students and a handful of
undergrads. Being a band director or playing in a service band really
isn't a bad gig. More importantly, it's a gig.

My $0.02.

Folks,

I have a colleague who objects to teaching euph since there is no
continuing path except (in his opinion) a band director, community band,
or service band.

I feel this is wrong since it is only the rarest case that we find
someone wanting to major in euph performance. Do you think this opinion
is common among our brethren?
