I have the Zoom H2, and the mics built-in to that thing are better
than the MXL 990 (I have a pair of those, too). The MXL mics are not
as quiet, and I believe the built-in mics are better suited to all
types of recordings -- including trombone blowin'.
If you are looking for a bargain on a good mic, try the CAD GXL-2200.
Priced at under $85, this one is hard to beat.
