What have any of you used as a guide for teaching dyslexic students?
Thanks!
Well, I empathize, to start with. I'm dyslexic. But in my case, the dyslexia only manifests itself when reading fast, as in words on a page. Music, we never read as fast, so I've never had a problem reading or playing music at any speed. I've always had trouble reading a textbook, or a newspaper/periodical, etc. I've just read at a much slower pace.
In school it presented problems because for, one, long exams, I'd never finish in alloted times. Book reports? I was terrible.
When I was student (long before the invention of dirt), we (the teachers & me) didn't know what dyslexia was, so I was labelled a bad reader, or poor student, except in the performance of music where I didn't need to read at the same speed.
How severe is the dyslexia in your student?
Tom
