SamBurtis.com is now online, if not yet fully developed.
(http://samburtis.com) It will be several weeks or more before I get
all of the planned content up on the site...essays, my schedule, The
Devil's Trombone Dictionary, aural samples of recordings in which I
have been involved, some teaching and performing vids, etc. The first
finished page is one that is devoted to my new book, "Time, Balance
And Connections". (http://samburtis.com/sams-books) It contains
PayPal direct ordering tabs, an address where checks or money orders
can be mailed and about 35 pages of excerpts from the book, including
the whole Introduction, the Table of Contents and an extended sample
of one of the chapters.

Here is the description of the purpose for posting those excerpts:

============================================================

Please read some of the book below for an idea of how it approaches
the art and craft of brass playing. I include the fourth sample
(Pages 30-55) only to illustrate how far some of these exercises can
be taken, exercises that start with the simplest chance-driven
choices and limitations. The extended sequence starting on page 36 is
not an "exercise" that one should learn in and of itself; it is
simply an example of where you can go by using the techniques
provided in this book. The possibilities for variation are nearly
endless. I do not believe that I have repeated a practice day in 30
years, and yet everything that I practice moves towards particular
goals that I have set for myself. You can do the same. Have fun. I am.

============================================================

There is not much more to say on the matter., The book is moving well
and I am now at work on the trumpet edition...estimated time of
arrival, mid-summer. You either have a real need for a book this
thorough and this new or you do not, no matter what ranges or styles
you play. It is priced at about the same amount as a stock Bach
mouthpiece, and if it does not help your playing more than any piece
of equipment that you have ever bought...including hottest-thing-ever
multi-thousand dollar new horns and great classics...I will gladly
refund your money.

That's a promise.

Look into it. You will be glad that you did.

Bet on it.

Later...

Sam
