I don't have a 10", Bob,
But I have Basses with
8", 8.5", 9.5", and 10.5".

The 8" is on a G Bass (.535 bore, Silver plated)
Save that one for a different discussion.

My 8.5" is a Bach 50B with a 42 bell. The bell is unlacquered & gold annealed. I use this when I need a true bass for late Mozart, or Brahms era.
My 9.5" is a Bach 50T2. It's a heavy yellow brass, with HW slide. I use this for standard Orchestral Bass Trb fare.
My 10.5" is a Bach 50B2L. The bell is lightweight & Gold plated. I use this for rare Big Band work, and the ocassional outdoor Pops concerts or, if the Orchestra needs 2 Basses, & I'm playing the lower part of the two.

I like all the diffrent sounds these different combinations bring to the table. If I was starting out now or in the last 10 years or so, I might just have gone with several removeable bells on one instrument, but I've been playing Bass Trombone longer than companies have offered interchangable parts.

Listers,

I'd like to hear why folks choose/reject a 10" bell. If you use one or
liked the sound when you tried it, perhaps you would share more
details about the alloy and treatment as well as why you like it/what
benefits, etc. Some say it is really a larger sound. others say it
looses core. What's your experience.

Thanks,
