Hello all,
It was 12 years ago today (not an April Fool's joke either).....
One of the most memerable days for quite a few of us.
Douglas Yeo was giving a recital in Jordon Hall of the New England Conservatory on Bass Trombone with Piano, Orchestra, Percussion, and unaccompanied, and also on Serpent both accomp & unaccomp.
About 50 (that I knew of) of us Bass Trombonists planned to descend on Boston for this recital which included several world premieres.
The day before (March 31) was 76 degrees in Boston, I walked around in shorts! THe day of the recital, Monday April 1, Gordon Bowie (then of Maine, now of Wash D.C.), and I had been to the Bull & Finch Pub (Cheers, to non-Bostonians), and as we were leaving, the temp was falling, & falling, and falling. AS we left our hotel for the short walk to Jordan Hall, it began to snow, SNOW, the day after a 76F day. By the time the recital started there was a foot on the ground. 2 Feet when we emerged at the end. Before the night was over there was 37 INCHES of the "Partly Cloudy" on the ground.
Needless to say, we were snowed in, in Boston. For the next three days!
But I always remember fondly, that this was a truly remarkable April 1. I believe Doug may still have that story on his website, along with all the good stuff he has there for all of us.
Couldn't let April 1 go by, esp since I forgot to mention it last year on the 11th anniv (Sorry Doug).
