Thanks, Earl. We evacuated to my mom's, which is 5 hours north of the Gulf coast. Our home was still blue-roofed from Hurricane Rita 3 years ago. Long story, but we paid a roofer who never did the work. Before Gustav, I had gotten back up on the roof and nailed down some plywood over the worst spots and put down new tarps. This was a much worse storm than Rita, so says our local TV station. We are getting our local news streamed live over the internet, which is good to have.
KFDM.com
They are saying that 96 percent of EntergyTexas is without power. It will be weeks before that is restored, and they are telling people to stay out of the area. Three years ago, we were here at my mom's for 3 weeks. According to KFDM, this could be at least that long.
We worry, of course, that our home will not have a roof when we return -- and while we lost insurance on the house after that storm, we are just thankful to be safe. We'll deal with the aftermath when we can. We don't sweat the small stuff, and that is all small stuff. We are safe and that's what counts.
Thanks for your concern. All is well.
