Not to mention that bass trombones come in very handy for playing notes
which are beneath the range of the tenor trombone.  I would also like to
point out that when tenors and bass are playing together as a section that
the bass man should strive to match his tone with the other players, not to
stand out as a different instrument, unless of course he has an independent
part which needs to be featured.
