8-track was WAY after the reel-to-reel days.  By miles and miles.

(who has owned Tascam, Sony, TEAC, and other assorted reel-to-reel  
machines, had an 8-track in my '68 Ford Mustang, listened to cassettes  
on cross country tours, then bought 4-track, 8-track, and 16-track  
reel-to-reel semi-pro recorders, followed by DAT mastering machines,  
and even bought into the MD and DCC formats, and later the CD-R  
recorders.  But we haven't even mentioned "record players."  My  
goodness; I'm an old tart!)
