Over the years, I have had problems with sound levels. A times, I have taken
a dB meter into the pit here, in San Jose. One time, during "The Gift" the
parade sequence generated SUSTAINED dB reading of 122-127. A jet engine at
fill throttle is rated at 120.
During this ballet, I bought those cheap foam things (rated at 28 dB) and
over those I put gun attenuators (ear Muffs) RATED AT 32 dB. I can't say for
certain what effect this set up had, but I'm sure it helped.
Needless to say, I couldn't hear a NOTE I was playing, but at 122 dB, who
could tell?
