[Trombone-l] Contrabass Trombone?

Phil (and John), I found that I just could not get used to hearing the
different overtones, so I gave up. I did, however, get an F contra (F
true bass for Tom). It is easier to get used to the overtones, but
harder to get used to the positions (for me, anyway). It's like playing
with the F trigger pulled most of the time. You can get them in almost
any configuration of valves, and my Haag is set up with the same
differential as a conventional bass (Bb/F/D) so it's F/A/C. It can use a
bass mp, but the sound is a little "smaller" so I use the supplied "JK
exclusive KBP 2B". I know this doesn't help with your search, but....

Ed (member of the VERY dark side)

and remember my favorite quote:

"A contrabass trombone is not as silly as the bagpipes, but just as useless"

Didn't play any different, didn't give me much of a different sound, tho I could pull the Bb trigger on the F horn and found myself with a BBb horn.

The BBb will sound an octave lower than the Bb you're used to hearing. It takes some 15-20 minutes to get your brain used to listening for the *correct* overtones.

I was hoping to find out about some obscure Chinese company making them, but no luck so far. [although I did play a Tianjin symphony tenor today that was quite respectable... at a little over... US$500! Imagine!] So, I am checking whether one or another of the listers has a used Alexander[Haag, Thein, Kanstul] or other that they are willing to part with. Let me know, OK?
