Eric Swanson mentioned the group, THEM BONES, would be in concert in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area soon. I've been having server problems, so it could be that the concert was this past weekend. While evacuated to my mom's in northeast Texas, Eric sent me a copy of a CD recorded by THEM BONES, entitled "You Asked For It!".
While driving to a gig in Palestine (that's "teen" folks), I listened to the CD going and coming. The playing is just as good as it gets and will just knock your socks off. From the top to the bottom, to the stellar solo work to the wonderful recording quality -- every serious trombone student & teacher should have a copy of this CD in their library. While the copyright on the CD says 2004, it is my understanding that the actual recording was done for an LP back in the mid-80s. That's about the time I heard the group "Live" at my first ever IAJE convention. I was blown away then, and I'm blown away again with the recorded version of THEM BONES.
I didn't ask for it... but I'm really glad I got it.
Get yours before you forget to make an order. Do it NOW. Today! This minute.
Says Eric Swanson:
"I'm sure Chuck would love to sell a few if you have kind words about
it you'd like to spread. It was originally only available on vinyl
(it was done in about 1981 or 82) and sold out years ago. Chuck only
recently had it remastered from the original tapes and released it on
CD. It sounds much better than the original mix did. He spent a lot
of his own money to have it done, and of course being a jazz album it
isn't exactly selling like hot cakes, so anything you can do would be
appreciated. He sells them way too cheap too. Probably best to
contact him about buying the CD. Some of the charts might be for sale
too, I'm never really sure about that part, but he did publish some of
them himself years ago. His email address is: cmandernach at sbcglobal.net "
You won't be disappointed!
