Brass Arts Quintet Performs British Brass Music
Tullahoma, TN
The Brass Arts Quintet will present a free concert at 7:30 PM on Tuesday,
November 18, 2008 in Wattenbarger Auditorium in the Bryan Fine Arts Building
on the Tennessee Tech campus, located at 1150 N. Dixie Avenue in Cookeville,
TN. The program will feature works by British composers with one exception.
Early works to be performed include a set of Elizabethan madrigals
transcribed by Greg Danner, two classic selections by Henry Purcell as
transcribed and edited by Robert King and the March Before the Battle also
known as The Earl of Oxford¹s March by William Byrd and arranged for brass
by Joshua Hauser.
Moving into the 20th century, the brass will perform Equale Dances by Edward
Gregson and the Mini Overture by Witold Lutoslawski. Although of Polish
origin, Lutoslawski became friends with the well known British Trumpeter
Philip Jones, leader of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, for which this work
was composed. The program will end with two exciting settings of the music
of the Beatles, Eleanor Rigby and When I¹m 64.
Tennessee Tech Professor of Trombone Dr. Joshua Hauser says of the concert,
³We always look forward to the opportunity to share some of our favorite old
classics with our audiences and this program will certainly have something
for everyone.²
³We look forward to seeing you here.²
