Speaking about ego's, how big must it be then for a trombonist who doubles
on organ :-)
I know at least two: a friend of mine who plays bass AND church
organ - the other one is myself. I have played trombone all my life, and
sundays if I have no other gig, you can find me in church, playing the
organ. And yes, I play 'out of my head' so I can harmonize hymns the way I
like (unless there's a choir, then I have to follow their voice parts).
Of course there are rules and books that explain them. Also it helps to
study the "371 vierstimmige Choralgesänge" by J.S.Bach.
Trombone content: we play trombone+organ compositions - taking turns!
