[Trombone-l] Music for tenor and bass trombone and piano

John,

The only accompaniment hymnal with which I am familiar is the Episcopal one 
which is very "richly" scored for organ and arranged to be equally useful 
for piano by ignoring the pedal staff. There are no alternate chordings or 
modulations although there are many hymns - particularly in the service 
music section - with descants, and a number of hymns have alternate tunes. 
There are a few notations with suggested stops but by and large the voicing 
is left up to the organist. These factors provide some interesting 
opportunities for trombone - organ arrangements.

Our organist is triply handicapped in that he is not a trombonist (*grin*); 
he has been totally blind since the age of four (surgical removal due to 
cancer); and our organ is a 100 year old tracker organ with only 10 stops. 
Nevertheless he is adept at modulating into alternate keys and or chording 
though not as stridently as our previous organist who deserted us for a 
newer more versatile organ at the Presbyterian church. *grin*

BTW, don't let your comments about organists improvising "out of their 
heads" get to any "Organ Lists". I have found that, with some exceptions 
such as our present organist, that as a group organists have even bigger 
egos than orchestra conductors or even trumpet players!
