For listers in the Washington, DC, area, an all-Sibeilus program with the Symphony No. 7 performed by the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy will be repeated Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. this weekend in the cordial acoustic of the Concert Hall at the Kennedy Center.
On Thursday, Craig Mulcahy projected the expansive trombone solos with a warm sound. Overall the orchestra was in great form, whether in less-known or familiar music.
The program begins with the Symphony No. 1 and, in the middle, The Oceanides, Op. 73, a naturalistic tone poem.
