Dick,

I don't know.  Perhaps I have a different perspective about equipment, since I played oboe/English horn for the 25 years, before I started playing trombone.  

But, are you telling me you don't start with a block of brass, carve a mouthpiece for yourself and then play it, nervously waiting for it to either split or go soft?
