From the LA Times: "Chauncey Welsch, a trombonist best known for his
work with musical greats including Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney and
Benny Goodman, died of cancer May 25 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
in Los Angeles. He was 81."
Chauncey was a featured soloist on some of the Linda Ronstadt/Nelson
Riddle recordings of the 1980's
He was also the uncle of Grammy award winning recording engineer
Elliot Scheiner, known for his work with Steely Dan, Toto, Sting and
many others. Scheiner was a drummer who did not like to tour but
wanted to stay in the music biz. During a recording session that
Chauncey was participating in at New York City's A&R Studios,
Chauncey introduced Elliot to Phil Ramone. After a brief
conversation, Ramone offered Scheiner a job as his assistant.

And then I had this dream that my whole family were just cartoon
characters and our success had led to some crazy propaganda network
called Fox News.
