I've never played a bass trumpet myself.

But from listening to others play, I'd have to agree.  The Dotzauer
sounds really good to my ears, more "trumpety" and less like a horn or
alto.

I forgot to mention - I've known a few people who've had bass trumpets
by Meister Dotzauer, and they've sworn by them.
