Keep in mind, also, it IS a Trumpet, afterall.
While freeblowing would be nice, it is NOT a Trombone.
Those who do not do a lot of doubling (Trumpet & Trombone in particular), don't realize that there are different characteristics between the two.
If there weren't, then Valved Trombones would be the same as Bass Trumpets, which, of course, they're not.
Techically, the instrument to which we are all referring, myself included, is really a Tenor Trumpet, a true Bass Trumpet (like a "True" Bass Trombone) would be pitched in F, but like the Clarinet family, Trumpets no longer have "Tenor" in its family "vocabulary".
