[Trombone-l] Bass Trumpets

When we did the Janacek Sinfonietta a couple of years ago, we rented two
bass trumpets from the Cincinnati Symphony, They sent a new Getzen and
an old Holton. The latter they evidently use only when they need two.
I tried both and chose the Getzen - It is is larger bore and plays with
a nice sound and has good intonation. I have played a Bach in the past
- I think I would give the nod to the Getzen. We also played Wagner:
Act 1 of Die Walküre and Dr Brett Shuster of the U of Louisville played
the same Cincinnati Getzen. Brett got the most gorgeous sound I have
ever heard on a bass trumpet! (I vowed to not play the thing again
after that!)
