Alex,
I'd like to say check out the Miraphone bass trumpet that Tom mentioned. I
have always enjoyed the Miraphone instruments, primarily for the feel of the
rotary valves vs. pistons, (that is just my personal preference), ease of
playing, and great intonation for a bass trumpet. The Miraphone that I played
most recently was an older three-valve instrument made in the 60's or 70's that
had been overhauled. I've tried one of the newer three-valve Miraphones at
the Midwest Clinic and have to say that the horn they had played like an
absolute dream! The Miraphone website currently lists both three- and four-valve
bass trumpets for sale, check it out: _http://www.miraphone.de/_
(http://www.miraphone.de/) . I have played on the Yamaha piston valve bass trumpets too,
but admittedly was already smitten with the Miraphone, so my review of that
instrument may be a bit biased.
Best of luck on your search!
Best,
Joseph W. Frye

The old Conn's are nice, Alex. We just did the Janacek Sinfonietta
here with ASO and Demondrae Thurman was playing a Mirafone. It was
very nice, indeed.

I am in the market for a bass trumpet and I am taking an informal
survey.
What brands do you all prefer?
Rotary vs. piston?
C vs. Bb?
On or off-list responses are welcome...
Thanks,
