[Trombone-l] New music - was: "Are Digital Orchestras a Sign of the Times?"

A few years back, my family and I attended a presentation of Video Games Live. An orchestra and choir with percussion, synths and digital effects performed music from video games. They were linked to images from the games shown on a large screen above the stage. It was marvellous. Modern, contemporary (in the standard meaning as opposed to, well, noise) music. Everyone loved it. The concert did more for my sons' appreciation of orchestral music than all of the kids' concerts combined.

My point: digital anything will be just another colour in the palette of contemporary composers. Another tool in the toolbox.

There should be more music of better quality than ever before.

This is a good thing.
