See, I knew someone would know. It would even be better if steeped in 
herbs de Provence.

The Boston Brass Band probably used whale oil.

I suppose whatever oil was available, nut, linseed, lamp, mineral, etc.

I hear tell that HBS is in New Orleans this year--in July.
