I picked up a 1928 [8.25"]King Silver-Tone bell-section-only w/beautiful
engraving (naked lady). I want to if it is feasible to make a Latin band
horn out of this--0.525 slide, since the original was a 0.510/0.530 dual
bore press fit. I mic'd the several dimensions from the handslide input
point to the tuning slide output end ferrule. All dimensions (gooseneck OD
in- 0.595/out- 0.645, main tuning slide ferrule input- 0.670 and main tuning
slide output-0.820 ) are LARGER than a modern King 4B EXCEPT the tuning
slide output ferrule/'bell tail OD' (0.882 on the 4B; 0.870 on my bell).
Do any of you have any connections that can help me determine the various
'tuning slide output ferrule diameters' for the various
Tempo/Cleveland/King[3B+] 0.525" horns? I think you see where I am
going--finding the right model main brace receiver, gooseneck, main tuning
slide ass'y that would allow me to make a 0.525" bore horn with this bell.
I'd be most receptive to design thoughts from our tech colleagues on the
List.
Thanks in advance for anything you can add!
